What is a MOOC?

What is a MOOC?

You could call Massive Open Online Courses (or MOOCs) education for the masses. Now that sounds like a ‘one-size-fits-all’, but in fact, it’s the opposite. Let us explain.

MOOCs are free online courses available for anyone to enroll. They’re open access and aimed at unlimited participation. MOOCs are fast becoming the mode of choice to deliver relevant educational experiences, learn new skills and advance career or personal goals.

The online format is intrinsically flexible (you can decide when and how you’d like to study) and interactive. By signing up for a MOOC, you become connected to a community of fellow knowledge-seekers and are able to share information, get pointed feedback to questions, and learn and grow together through user forums.

This is the advantage of MOOCs! An information-sharing, resource-mixing format that allows knowledge to be passed on, assimilated and applied to real-world situations.

Because the courses on offer are free to all, the content is pretty much unlimited. You can choose which skills you’d like to acquire or brush up on, and then tailor-make your education journey to suit the outcomes you want… Anything but a ‘one-size-fits-all’ if you ask us.
